The Credit Crunch Effect on Maine's Economy at Next Business Breakfast

WATERVILLE, Sep. 21 - The next Business Breakfast Series, presented by Thomas College in partnership with the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce, will focus on the recent national and international credit market problems and the effect they have had on the Maine economy. The presentation will be held on Thursday, October 11.
The presentation titled "The Subprime Mortgage Mess: Will There Be an Impact in Maine?" will be led by Chuck Lawton, chief economist of Planning Decisions, Inc., of South Portland, and columnist for the Maine Sunday Telegram. He will discuss how the credit crunch is effecting businesses and influencing the secondary market, and what companies can do to help their consumers.
Lawton specializes in fiscal impact studies, growth, economic policy and economic development studies. Lawton, who received a doctorate from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, is a former professor at the University of Maine at Farmington. He now writes a weekly column for the Maine Sunday Telegram on the state's economy.
