About Thomas Admissions Academics Student Life Athletics Support Thomas

"The friendships I've made at Thomas have been nothing short of amazing; in such an intimate, tight-knit community, you get to know other students quite well. These are the relationships that will last long after I graduate, some for a lifetime. I’m also really excited to think about ten years down the road and see what we’ve become, reflecting back on how our Thomas experience helped to shape and guide us."

Thomas College Breaks Ground on Nature Trail Project

Open to the public in late November

Brian Vassa and Sara Knowles of AmeriCorps break ground on the trail.WATERVILLE, Sept. 21 - Volunteers and workers broke ground this week on the Thomas Trail Project on the campus of Thomas College.

The 3,200 foot-long nature trail, made possible by grants from the Maine Department of Conservation's Recreational Trail Program and the Kennebec Messalonskee Trails, will be built in part by volunteers from Thomas including students, faculty and staff, and Waterville community members.

The Maine Department of Conservation has supplied three AmeriCorp workers who will oversee the construction of the project, as well as lead seminars on conservation tips, trail construction and safety for the volunteers.

The trail begins behind Alumni Field, winds through a wooded area with views of the Kennebec River and Messalonskee Stream, and ends at the Harold Alfond Athletic Center. It will be open for use by the community in late November. The trail will eventually connect to a separate trail at Waterville Junior High School.

For those interested in volunteering with the trail construction, please contact Donna-Jo Mitchell at 207-680-7547 or mitchelld@thomas.edu
