Thomas Starts New Recycling Program
Student Environmental Awareness Group is Formed

WATERVILLE, April 16 - Working with Dr. John Joseph and Thomas College Administration, Krista Specht '10 and other members of the newly formed Environmental Awareness Group have
been able to develop a recycling program to be utilized on the Thomas College campus.
Specht began her quest to start a recycling program last semester. At that time the student newspaper, the TC Voice, published an article about her idea to bring recycling to Thomas. Specht then got in contact with Dr. John Joseph, Professor of Finance and Economics, who would be offering a class called Environmental Economic Research. The class would be an efficiency study of Thomas College and Joseph offered to build in Specht's recycling program as part of the class. Throughout
the course, Joseph helped Specht with obtaining resources and communication with administration at the College.
A recycling station has now been placed on the second floor of the Thomas College Administration Building. The recycling station consists of three bins: returnables, office paper, and newspaper. For now, the program is being applied to the administration building until a budget can be made to branch out to the entire campus. An official proposal will be made to the administration of Thomas College and President George Spann near the end of April. The plan is to have a budget that would one day allow the
program to branch out and have recycling stations in every building on campus.
