Maine's Energy Independence and Security at Next Business Breakfast

Thursday, February 14 at 7:30 a.m.

WATERVILLE, Jan 28. - The next Business Breakfast Series, presented by Thomas College in partnership with the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce, will focus on Maine's energy independence and security for the next 50 years. The presentation will be held on Thursday, February 14 at 7:30 a.m. in the Thomas College Student Center Atrium.

John Kerry, director of the Office of Energy Independence and Security, will present on charting the course to Maine's energy independence and security for the next 50 years. This plan includes monitoring energy trends, providing information for consumers, and creating energy policies that enable the State of Maine to be a leader in energy conservation and efficiency. Recent legislation has ensured that Maine is committed to an energy future that will be lower cost, less dependent on imported fossil fuels, cleaner, and better for the state's economy. The plan will make Maine more energy independent, help to stabilize and reduce Maine homeowners' and businesses' energy bills, and help to address the looming threat of catastrophic global climate change through energy conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy.

Kerry's administrative experience includes serving as Special Advisor to the Cardinal Archbishop of New York, being President of the Kerry Group (a real estate development entity that specializes in commercial and residential development) and co-owning a family restaurant. His service in the public and private not-for-profit realm includes being a member of the Maine State Senate, the Maine State House of Representatives, the Northeast International Committee on Energy, the National Association of State Energy Directors, Catholic Charities USA, the Catholic Health Association, the National Association of State Catholic Conference Directors and Catholic Charities USA National Housing Task Force. In addition, he has served as Special Assistant to the Governor of Maine and as Chief Executive Officer of Catholic Charities Maine.

Kerry holds a master's degree in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard, University and a master's degree in Planning from the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work. He received his bachelor's in English from the College of the Holy Cross.

The presentation will be held in the College's Student Center Atrium on campus located at 180 West River Road in Waterville. The public is invited to attend. The program begins at 7:30 a.m.
