About Thomas Admissions Academics Student Life Athletics Support Thomas

"The friendships I've made at Thomas have been nothing short of amazing; in such an intimate, tight-knit community, you get to know other students quite well. These are the relationships that will last long after I graduate, some for a lifetime. I’m also really excited to think about ten years down the road and see what we’ve become, reflecting back on how our Thomas experience helped to shape and guide us."

Thomas Community Celebrates Publication of Voyages: A Maine Franco-American Reader Book Signing to be Held March 13

WATERVILLE, Feb. 11 - Thomas College is celebrating the publication of Dr. Nelson Madore's book, Voyages: A Maine Franco-American Reader by holding a reception and book signing Thursday, March 13 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Student Center Atrium on campus.

Refreshments with Franco flair will be served and there will be a time for remarks from Dr. Madore and others. Books will be available for sale.

Voyages is a rich and engaging resource that will be enjoyed by many. The book is a compilation of Franco-American experiences and history, in the form of essays, stories, poetry and art, co-edited by Madore and University of Southern Maine Professor Dr. Barry Rodrigue.

Congressman Michael Michaud provides the preface for the book, which contains a wide range of perspectives, past and present, to illustrate the Franco-American experience in Maine. Nearly seventy contributors cover topics such as an explanation of Quebec-Maine-Acadia frontier history, genealogy, religion, literature, community affairs, politics, language and humor.

Madore, 64, who is now in his thirty-ninth year of teaching at Thomas, primarily teaches history, government, third world cultures, humanities, and graduate level courses in management, but he has also dabbled in sociology and anthropology. He is the Student Senate and Judicial Board advisors in addition to being the alumni advisor for the Alpha Gamma Delta fraternity and the Epsilon Kappa sorority. He served as Mayor of Waterville from 1999-2004.
