Thomas College Features Marjorie Whipple as Artist of the Month
|
WATERVILLE, April 16-Thomas College is featuring the original works of Marjorie Whipple in its' art gallery during the month of May.
The exhibit to be on display consists of original watercolor paintings. Whipple's work has been on display at the
Festival of Art at the Hutchinson Center, Senior College in Belfast as well as at the Sebasticook Valley Gallery in Newport and the Northport
Landing Gallery in Northport. She will also be showing her work for a second time at the Winslow Public Library in August.
Watercolor painting is a hobby that Whipple, of Palmyra, took up after retiring from MBNA in Belfast in 2003.
Looking for a new hobby after many years in photography, she decided to join a group of ladies who painted with watercolors at the Belfast YMCA.
The group would occasionally gather funds to have a professional artist put on a workshop. Through this group, Whipple became good friends with
retired artist Micki White, of Camden, an experienced watercolorist. White taught Whipple how to paint, mat, and frame her artwork for various gallery showings.
After just six months of working with White and attending other art workshops, Whipple began selling her watercolor paintings at the Northport Landing Gallery in Northport, Me.
Whipple's work is on display in the College's art gallery in its administration building at 180 West River Road in Waterville.
The gallery is open to the public Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
