Thomas College Announces New Faculty
WATERVILLE, September 3 -- Thomas College is pleased to welcome the
following new faculty members:
Faith A. Benedetti holds a B. A. in Humanities from Bradford College and an M.A. in
English from the University of Maine. In addition to her full-time work as a program coordinator and community-based
educator in the field of AIDS awareness, she comes to Thomas with years of teaching experience at Bradford and Northern
Essex Community College in Massachusetts. Benedetti will be offering Composition II for the fall semester.
Daniel Booth holds a dual Bachelor of Science Degree in Institutional Management and Clinical Nutrition
from The Pennsylvania State University. He earned his M.B.A from Thomas College. Booth is currently the Vice President of Operations
for Inland Hospital and previously served as Vice President for Human Resources and Facilities for five years.
He will be offering Human Resource Management in the Continuing Education Division in the Spring.
Lucie Boucher, Ed.D. holds a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Maine,
a M.Ed. in Literacy Education from the University of Maine, and an Ed.D. in Literacy Education from the University of Maine.
Boucher has worked in public education in the roles of teacher, literacy specialist, federal programs director, building administrator,
and consultant. She will be teaching Providing Reading Support in the Graduate Division this fall.
Mary Callan earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Farmington and her
M.Ed. in Supervision and Evaluation Instruction from the University of Maine at Orono. She is a certified
General Elementary Teacher, Principal, Curriculum Coordinator Supervisor and Assistant Superintendent.
She currently is the Principal of the Maranacook Middle School in Readfield. Callan will be teaching Students
and Families at Risk in the Spring for the Graduate Division.
Donald E. Cragen holds his B.S. in Business Administration from Salem
State College and his M.S. in Athletic Training from Illinois State University. He is completing
his doctorate in Sports Management at the United States Sports Academy. Cragen comes to Thomas
from Triton College in River Grove, Ill., where he has held positions as athletic trainer, athletics
director and faculty member since 1994. Cragen joins the Thomas College faculty as a full-time
Assistant Professor of Sport Management.
Helene Farrar earned her B.A. in Studio Art from the University of Maine
at Orono and her M.F.A. from Goddard College in Plainfield, Vt. She has exhibited widely in solo
and group exhibitions in Maine, Vermont, and in England. Farrar has been an instructor at the
University of Maine at Augusta since 2005 and has taught at the New Gloucester Middle School,
the Waynflete School and the Fiddlehead Center for the Arts. She will be offering a course in
Graphic Design this fall.
Andrew Grover holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and an M.B.A.
from Thomas College. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner with over ten
years of public accounting and forensic auditing experience. He has taught accounting at
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and this fall will teach Accounting for Management Decisions
in the Graduate Division.
Matthew Harris holds his B.F.A. in Graphic Design from Colorado
State University and his M.B.A. from Thomas College. Harris has worked as a graphic designer for Kirkland
Newspapers, Inc. and as a special effects/production and sound assistant engineer in film.
He currently works with Community Correctional Alternatives assisting clients with
independent living skills. He will be offering a course in Multimedia Development this fall.
Nancy A. Henry holds her B.A. in Political Science from St. Andrews
Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, N.C. and her J.D. from the University of Maine Law School.
She is the author of two full-length poetry collections and the editor of numerous anthologies.
In addition to her work as a practicing attorney, Henry has been a faculty member at both
Southern Maine and Central Maine Community Colleges in English and Humanities.
She will be offering Composition I and Introduction to Communications for the fall semester.
Before assuming the role of Police Chief in Waterville,
Joseph Massey held positions as deputy police chief, patrol sergeant, and detective
with the department. Massey holds his B.S in Public Administration from the University
of Maine and is completing his M.B.A. at Thomas. He is a certified instructor with the
Maine Criminal Justice Academy as well as a certified civil rights officer with the state
of Maine and the department of the Attorney General. He will be offering a course
in the spring 2008 semester on Community Policing and Partnerships.
Thomas M. Mauritzen holds a B. S. in Computer Information
Systems and his M.S.C.T.E from Thomas College. He is currently a consultant, web administrator,
and programming analyst with Joseph Associates in Hallowell, Maine. In addition
to teaching at Kennebec Valley Community College, Mauritzen will be offering
Foundations of Quantitative Analysis and Management Information Systems
for the fall semester.
Paula Michaud holds a B.S. in Speech/Elementary
Education from the University of Maine-Farmington, an M S. in Exceptionalities:
Hearing Impairment from the University of Southern Maine, and an M.S.C.T.E from
Thomas College. Michaud is presently the American Sign Language Teacher
for MSAD #47 and has taught at Kennebec Valley Community College since 1992.
She will be offering a course in Sign Language at Thomas this fall.
Anthony Nedik holds a B.S. in Business Administration
from the University of Maine Augusta and an M.S. Ed in Human Resource Development from
the University of Southern Maine. Nedik has over twenty five years as a Human Resource
professional with a concentration in Training and Development.
He has taught management courses at the University of Presque Isle for
the American Management Association. He will be offering Training,
Development and Evaluation in the Graduate Division this fall.
Jessica Norton holds her B.S. in Business
Technology Education from Husson and her M.B.A. from Thomas College.
She is a teacher at MSAD #11 Gardiner Area High School where she teaches courses
in math, business, accounting and web-page design. She is offering a course
this fall at Thomas in Math for Business and Economics.
Brian Richards holds a B.A. degree in History with
a Business Management minor from Franciscan University of Steubenville and a Master
of Library and Information Science from Kent State University.
Richards, currently a Library Technician at Thomas College,
has worked as a teacher, librarian and tutor most recently at
the Mountain View Youth Development Center.
As an EMT/Firefighter he was actively involved in
community safety education. Brian will be teaching U.S. History
for the Continuing Education Division in the Spring.
Sarah Salisbury earned a B.A.
in Mathematics from the University of Maine Farmington and an M.A.
in Teaching Secondary Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University.
Salisbury has over eight years of experience teaching secondary mathematics
and algebra, most recently at Skowhegan High School. She will be offering
Statistical Inference and Decision Making in
the Spring through the Continuing Education Division.
Wayne Wilson holds a B.A. in English from the
University of Massachusetts at Boston and a M.F.A. from Louisiana State
University. Wilson has published novels, short fiction and nonfiction
and his 2005 essay "A Quarter of a Man" was nominated for a Pushcart
Prize in 2005. He has offered courses through the Harvard University
Extension Service, at Tulane, Colby, UMass-Boston and LSU. He will be
offering Composition I for the fall semester.
