Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda is a nonprofit
education association for students preparing for careers in business
and business-related fields. There are quarter million students
in the group. The association has four divisions: Future Business
Leaders of America (FBLA) for high school students, FBLA-Middle
Level for junior high, middle, and intermediate school students,
Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) for postsecondary students, and Professional
Division for business people, FBLA-PBL alumni, educators,
and parents who support the goals of the association.
At the State Leadership Conferences, high school FBLA students compete
in events testing their business knowledge and skills. Top state winners
are then eligible to compete for national awards at the National Leadership
Conference each summer.
During the conference, Thomas PBL members, along with advisors Adjunct
Lecturer Ryan Connon and Associate Professor Roberta Tibbetts, distributed,
proctored, and graded written tests of over 300 high school students from
Maine. Competition areas included business planning, community events,
public speaking, impromptu speaking, management decision making, client
services and entrepreneurship.
