vice president

WATERVILLE, June 11 —Katie Cormier ’10 and Mara Davis ’10 were recently elected to prestigious posts within the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls (IORG).

Cormier, of Waterville who is studying management, was installed in May as the grand worthy advisor for Maine, which is equivalent to the state president.

Davis, of Wilton who is studying political science, was elected as the grand worthy associate advisor, or state vice president. Davis will visit assemblies throughout the state and participate in several state events, service activities and programs. She will assume the president’s post next year.

Rainbow is an independent, service-orientated organization with Masonic roots that teaches young women and girls the virtues of faith, hope and charity. Each state or region is organized into a grand assembly. The grand assembly establishes its own guidelines for activities, special projects or events.

Davis and her family have a history of involvement with fraternal organizations. Davis’ mother was involved with IORG as a teenager in Oscoda, MI, and is a member of Order of the Eastern Star (OES). Her father, who is also a member of OES, is a Mason. Davis’ grandmother was an adult advisor at OES.

Davis, who has been affiliated with IORG since age 11, believes in giving back to the community: “It’s a great feeling when you look at the impact your volunteer work has on members of the community and on specific people or organizations.”
