Waterville, Maine---April 24, 1996---Ken Massar of Etna, Maine, is the featured artist for the month of May 1996 at the Thomas College Art Gallery. His exhibit of 7 large acrylic paintings will be on display from May 2-31. An opening reception will be held in the Gallery on May 2 from 7:00-8:00 p.m.
Massar, originally from Warren, Ohio, has been painting semi-abstract forms, derived mostly from plants and flowers, for over 25 years. Since 1992, he has incorporated Maine landscapes into his abstract works. Massar says of his paintings,"I was not interested in a 'realistic' rendering of rock walls or a rushing stream, but rather in the mysterious provocation of more abstract emerging forms."
Massar earned his bachelor of fine arts from Ohio Wesleyan University and his master of fine arts from Florida State University. He has studied at the Art Students League and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Recent exhibitions of his works include: Galeria International, Mexico City, Mexico; Dorothy Cameron Gallery, Toronto, Canada; St. Amands Gallery, Sarasota, Florida; and Geraldine Karman Gallery, Tampa, Florida.
The Thomas College Art Gallery is located on the second floor of the Administration Building, 180 West River Road, Waterville, Maine. The Gallery is open to the public Monday-Friday, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
