Resident Assistant Application Information

 

Minimum Qualifications

Please Note:  Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an applicant will be offered a position.

 

By date of application, a candidate must:

1)      Have and maintain a 2.2 cumulative GPA.

2)      Be in good conduct standing.

3)      Have experience living in residence halls (minimum of two semesters).

4)      Demonstrate leadership skills and/or potential, involvement in campus, and an understanding of community living.

5)      Be mature, self-reliant, motivated, responsible, have integrity, self-esteem and initiative.

 

Please be aware that all offers are made on a conditional basis, contingent upon the successful completion of the minimum requirements.  Failure to meet a minimum requirement may result in the offer being withdrawn.

 

Application Procedure

The following items must be submitted to the Hannah Gladstone, Director of Residential Life and Housing, whose office is located on the first floor of Bartlett Hall, in order to complete your application for an RA position:

1)      Application Form and resume by designated due dates.

2)      Two Reference Forms (not from current Resident Assistant staff members).

 

Please note:  Good sources of references include Thomas College faculty or staff, employers, academic advisors, or anyone who has supervised you in a leadership position.  References from relatives, Resident Assistants and friends will not be accepted.  It is important to note that your application will not be considered complete until we have received all of your references.  It is your responsibility to make sure that all references are turned in by the designated due date.

 

Group Process

Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the Group Process, facilitated by the Residential Life staff.  Group Process is a mandatory part of RA Selection and all candidates must participate in order to be considered for a position.  Group Process sessions will last approx. 1 ½ - 2 hours.  The process will involve interacting with other candidates and staff.  There will be 3-4 activities to participate in, each lasting 30-45 minutes.

 

Individual Interviews

Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in two individual interviews.  The first will be with two current RA staff members and one will be with the Director of Residential Life and Housing,  All candidates are required to complete two interviews in order to be considered for a position.  Each interview will last approximately 45 minutes – one hour.
