The Adventure Starts Here!

It's your first week back at Thomas...what will you do?

Welcome Week is designated as the official welcome period to kick off your year.  The week is packed with more than 35 events that range from club socials to a nationally recognized performer on campus to a trip to the Portland Sea Dogs game and to FunTown/SplashTown USA!  Stay tuned to this site for updates and additions through the summer!

Each day, from Sunday, August 26th through Monday, September 3rd, there will be events, workshops, meetings and other activities for you to participate in sponsored by Res. Life and Housing, Student Life and Activities, the Dept. of Recreation and Intramural Programs, and a host of other departments, clubs and organizations such as Peer Advisors, CAB, CAS and more!  The week will also allow for many opportunities to win some prizes...from Thomas t-shirts to T-Bones gift cards.

During the week, you make no commitments - just drop by to an event*, meet some new faces and services offered at Thomas - or reacquaint yourself with the people and services available to you on campus - there is something for everyone during this incredible week - be sure to check out the complete schedule of events below and check back often for updates and additions!

*Please note the events which require a sign up and/or deposit ahead of time.

Sunday, August 26

Returning resident students check in/move in – 10:00am-1:00pm

Computer Configuration Workshops for Returning Students - 12:00-2:00; 3:00-5:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm - Rooms 122, 126 and 225  Advanced sign up required - more information will be sent to returning students from the Student Affairs office shortly regarding these sessions.

Welcome Back BBQ and Lawn Games – 4:45-6:00pm   Free to all students - attend and pick up your own Welcome Week Give-a-Way at the BBQ dinner!

Pick Up Softball Game – Softball Field - 5:30pm  Sponsored by the Dept. of Recreation and Intramural Programs

Monday, August 27

Flag Football Game - Intramural Field – 4:00-5:00pm Stop by to join in the fun and get on a team for a great game of flag football.  Sponsored by the Dept. of Recreation and Intramural Programs.

Mandatory floor meeting for GPH residents – Auditorium – 6:00pm A MUST attend meeting for GPH residents with the Office of Res. Life to learn about policies, pick up a Handbook & Catalog.

Monday Night Sports and Snacks – Atrium – 8:00pm  Stop by the Atrium to watch ESPN's Monday Night Baseball game and grab a free snack while you are there!

Open Tennis – Athletic Center – 8:00-11:00pm

Senate French Fry Social – T-Bones  – 8:30pm  Meet your Senate members, talk to them about your ideas and enjoy some French fries at T-Bones.  Sponsored by Student Senate.

C3 Night Bartlett lobby for Bartlett/Village residents – 9:00pm  Stop by for some Cookies, Cocoa (milk too!) and Conversation with the Director of Res. Life and other members of the Res. Life staff.

Tuesday, August 28

Commuter Welcome Back Continental Breakfast – 7:30-9:30am  This is an opportunity to meet and reconnect with other commuter students while grabbing continental breakfast before class.

Fellowship Social – Stickney Room -  3:00pm Meet and learn more about the Fellowship Club on campus and get a snack while you are there.

Pick Up Kickball Game – Softball Field – 4:00-5:00pm  No sign up needed – just stop by the field to play!  Sponsored by the Dept. of Recreation and Intramural Programs

Mandatory floor meeting for Bartlett/Village residents – Auditorium – 6:00pm  A MUST attend meeting for Village and Bartlett residents to learn about policies, pick up a Handbook & Course Catalog

Mini Golf or batting cages at Giffords - Giffords - 7:00-9:00pm  Meet up at Giffords just down the street to a free round of mini-golf or batting cages.  Come with a group of four ready to tee off or we’ll help you create a group once you get there.  Sponsored by Student Life.

C3 Night in GPH Lobby for GPH residents – 9:00pm Stop by for some Cookies, Cocoa (milk too!) and Conversation with the Director of Res. Life and other members of the Res. Life staff.

Wednesday, August 29

Safety Whistles – outside the Dining Center – 11:30-1:00pm  Sponsored by Peer Advisors, Res. Life, Public Safety and Health Services – learn more about the program and sign out a Safety Whistle.

You're Framed with PBL! – Atrium – 3:00-5:00pm  Stop by the Atrium to have a photo taken, make a picture frame or both!  Also, meet the members of PBL (FBLA/Phi Beta Lambda) and learn more about this great organization on campus while you are there.

Athletics Information Night - Auditorium - 6:00pm  Are you interested in playing a sport at Thomas College this year?  If so, meet with the Athletic Director during this informational meeting about NCAA and athletics on campus.

First Year Student “Progressive Ice Cream Sundae Social” with OL’s – Stickney - 7:15pm  First year students - get in line to create your own ice cream sundae creation and spend some time connecting back in with your Orientation Leader (OL) during this event.

Peter Boie Magic Show – Auditorium – 8:00pm Think you've seen magic shows before?  Not like this one!  You have to be there to see it and you have to see it to understand...this is not just your ordinary card trick and rabbit out of a hat!

Open Volleyball – Athletic Center – 9:00-11:00pm

Wild Wing Night (free soda with order of wings) –T-Bones – 9:00-10:00pm T-Bones is open for business…stop by for a special deal on chicken wings tonight!

Thursday, August 30

Free Lunch for all commuter students – 11:30-1:15pm  Be sure to have your current validated ID present to show in the cafeteria to enjoy lunch today free of charge.

Club/Organization and Community Resource Fair – Student Center - 11:30-1:00pm  A drop by fair featuring:  On campus clubs and organizations,  Health Center, CAS, Student Activities, SFS, IT, Dining Center, Career Services, Counselor Jeri Stevens, Athletics and Intramurals and various community organizations.  Visit tables to be entered in a raffle for prizes!

Afternoon tea with the tutors – Stickney - 3:30pm  Meet the tutors on campus, learn more about their services and enjoy a spot of afternoon tea with biscuits.  Sponsored by CAS/Tutors

Dance Club Social and Mini-performance – Atrium  – 4:00pm  Meet the members of the Dance Club, see some of their talent demonstrated and find out more information on classes, performances, possible involvement with the club, or just stop by to see the performance!

Portland Sea Dogs (AA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox) Game Trip – Bus leaves at 5:00pm     Hop on the bus for a trip to Portland to see the AA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox play the Trenton Thunder (NY Yankees AA Affiliate) – Cost:  $3.00 per student – returned to you once you get off the bus in Portland).  Sponsored by CAB (Campus Activities Board)*

Pick Up Ultimate Frisbee Game – Intramural Field – 6:00-8:00pm Sponsored by the Dept. of Recreation and Intramural Programs.

Friday, August 31

Habitat for Humanity Information Meeting - Stickney - 3:00pm  Are you interested in getting involved on campus as well as giving back to the community – stop by this information session to find out more about the Thomas College Habitat for Humanity club. 

Pick Up Soccer Game – Intramural Field – 3:00-4:00pm  No need to sign up – just show up and join a team!  Sponsored by the Dept. of Recreation and Intramural Programs.

Open Basketball – Athletic Center – 6:00-9:00pm

Graffiti Dance – Atrium - 9:30pm – 1:00am  Bring a white t-shirt, pillowcase or other item to sign away under the black lights and get ready to dance the night away.  Sponsored by the Kappa Delta Phi Fraternity.

Saturday, September 1

Fun Town/Splash Town Bus Trip – Leave from the flagpole at 12:00pm and return around 11:30pm  Head down south to the Fun Town/Splash Town amusement and water park for an afternoon and evening of rides and fun.  The cost for this trip is $5.00/per student and $10.00/guest (on a space available basis) which includes bus transportation, admission to the park and a bag dinner (for resident students only).  Sponsored by CAB (Campus Activities Board)*

Sunday, September 2

Bus Trip to Old Orchard Beach – Leave from the flagpole at 11:00am and return around 5:00pm  Spend the day at the beach, grab some boardwalk food, play in the arcade, browse the gift shop, or just lay out and get some sun. 

Monday, September 3

Augusta Wal-Mart and Mall Run - Leave from the flagpole at 1:00pm and return around 5:00pm -Need to pick something up that you forgot?  This afternoon trip will get you to WalMart and area shops including Bed, Bath and Beyond, clothing stores, and more.

CAB's Welcome Back BINGO! 7:00pm - Atrium  - CAB (Campus Activities Board) kicks off their bingo series with this fun event!
