WATERVILLE, MAINE, April 2018 — Three Thomas College business students recently placed third in a national competition against students from colleges such as Florida State University, Harding University, New England Institute of Technology, and Ohio Northern University. Kaitlyn Rourke, of Lewiston, Maine, Landon Wilbur, of Farmington, Maine, and Amanda Landry, of Madison, Maine, attended the Society for the Advancement of Management (S.A.M.) International Conference in Washington, D.C. from March 22-24.
The student team took part in a case study competition where they were responsible for analyzing a business and presenting their findings and recommendations in front of a panel of judges. The presentation can be viewed here.
“Going to DC was a great opportunity for me to gain experience in my field of study. It was also an amazing networking opportunity, as our group made friends from across the nation,” said Rourke, who is graduating from Thomas College in May.
The students were advised by Thomas College Marketing Professor Rick Saucier. The competition was funded through the support of the Harold Alfond Institute for Business Innovation.
“All the colleges participating in the competition were issued the same case. My job was to coach the students in how to prepare an analysis and to present the analysis in a professional manner,” said Saucier. “The student team dressed in a professional red and black (Thomas College colors!) and delivered a very polished presentation in a tight 25-minute time frame. The judges appeared to be quite impressed with our students’ poise, confidence, and professionalism along with their insightful analysis of the case.”
