Alumni on the Move: Barry Rock ’94 Web Director | May 29, 2018

Barry Rock was recently promoted to Vice President of Human Resources at Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan.

Barry has been in the human resources field since he graduated from Thomas, and the last 22 years he has worked in insurance.

His new role at Boston Medial Center charges him to oversee all HR functions, including benefits, compensation, payroll, HRIS, learning and development, talent acquisition, employee relations, and HR Business Partners.

“I kind of fell into human resources, but I am challenged each day and not one day is the same,” said Barry. “I have been very fortunate to have a great career!”

Barry grew up in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, on a dairy farm where he learned the value of family, friends, and hard work.

He found Thomas College while looking through college books in his high school guidance office. Barry knew it was the place for him after visiting the College with his parents.

“I was connected right away to the school on my first visit. The people I met were so genuine and friendly.”

Barry was lucky to make lifelong friends at Thomas College and was influenced by his professors, who he thinks of in his daily work.

Barry said Thomas College helped prepare him for his career.

“The academics were a great foundation, but leadership was most important,” he said. “I was very involved in many activities at Thomas College and felt that my ability to work with people has been imperative to my success.”

Barry is happy he chose Thomas College all those years ago.

“I am proud to be a Thomas grad because the College has become an innovator in technology and education,” he said. “I am proud to say that Thomas prepared me well, and I will never forget that experience throughout my life.”
