Conrad Ayotte is the CFO of J.S. McCarthy Printers in Augusta, one of New England’s oldest and largest sheet-fed printing operations. Prior to McCarthy Printers, Conrad was President of Custom Plastic Molding and Benton Plastics, provider of custom truck bed-liners; and prior to that was a partner in the public accounting firm of Schatz Fletcher, which later became part of what is now Macpage. Conrad is involved with many community boards, including the Augusta Board of Trade and the Augusta Country Club. He received his B.S. from Thomas College in 1977 and his M.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame Graduate School of Business in 1979.

Todd Smith is President of TSSD Services, Inc. and is a leader in the commercial nuclear industry, having run the business operations for the recovery and completion of the decommissioning of three New England power plants. Todd currently serves as the Director of Operations for all three sites’ dry fuel storage operations. He has over 20 years of professional experience in the heavy construction industry including construction management, contract management, corporate management and project controls. Todd graduated from Thomas with a B.S. in Accounting in 1992 and a M.B.A. in 1999.

Doug Cutchin, now retired, spent more than 20 years with the Sheridan Corporation, a family construction and engineering company founded by his father. He took the role of President in 1981. Doug has also been involved with a number of local boards and organizations, including Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter, Fairfield Historical Society, Maine General Board of Directors, and the Waterville Development Corporation. Doug received his B.A. in History and Economics from the University of Maine at Orono.

Brian Bernatchez is the founder, president, and managing principal of Golden Pond Wealth Management in Waterville. He is also founder and president of Maine Majestix Field Hockey Club and vice president of the Alfond Youth Center’s Founders Club. Brian has previously served on the boards of the Belgrade Lakes Association and the Belgrade Business Club. Brian is a 1988 graduate of Thomas College.

Cliff Abbott, recently retired, had a long and successful career as a Certified Public Accountant. His most recent job was Principal and Director of Berry Dunn’s Telecommunications and Utility Practice in Portland for 31 years. While at BerryDunn, Cliff spent 15 years as Director and founding member of Telergee Alliance, which is comprised of seven CPA firms across the country that work with Telecom providers and Electric Utilities. Previously, Cliff was a controller of a Home Health organization. Cliff received his B.A. in Business from University of Maine at Orono and his M.B.A from Babson College.

Cary Olson Cartwright is the Assistant Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility at Unum. Prior to joining Unum, she worked at Fleet/Bank of America handling community relations for Maine. Currently, she serves on several boards that are focused on supporting Maine’s youth and education, including Jobs for Maine’s Graduates (JMG). Cary graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a B.A. in Journalism, and attended the executive management program at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.

Jim Doyle is a part of Apple’s Strategic Initiatives team and lives in southern Maine. Prior to Apple, Jim worked for the Office of the Governor as Angus King’s Deputy Chief of Staff and Director for Operations and Technology. Jim earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston College and attended the University of Maine for graduate study, as well as the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management at Michigan State University’s Institute of Public Utilities for specialized study in telecommunications and utility policy. Jim joined the board to advance the mission of Thomas in driving personalized learning in an affordable, accessible, and value driven environment.

William Dubay is a management and operations specialist and currently serves as CEO of Baxter Brewing in Lewiston. Throughout his career he has focused on turnarounds and guiding the development of rapidly growing businesses. His career includes both interim and full-time positions with numerous companies, including the successful IPO of a venture capital backed startup as President /COO and extensive international experience with a Fortune 200 corporation. Bill is a 1972 Thomas College graduate with a B.S. in Business Education.

Marc Gendron of Biddeford is the recently retired Superintendent of MSAD 20 in Fort Fairfield. He is on the Board of Directors of the Northern Maine Educational Collaborative as well as on the Executive Committee of the State Superintendent’s Association. Marc graduated in 1976 with a B.S. in Business Education from Thomas College. He also holds a M.B.A. and Education Leadership from the University of Maine.

Katherine is the principal of Haley Associations, a boutique higher education executive search and consulting firm. For seven years, she was a principal and executive higher education search consultant at the national search firm Witt/Kieffer. Prior to Witt/Kieffer, Kate had a long career in higher education, serving as the (first woman) president of two liberal arts colleges, Whittier in southern California, and Gettysburg, in Pennsylvania. She received her B.A. from Tufts University and her M.A. and Ph.D. from University of Illinois. Michelle Hayes is a principal at Smith Kjedgaard & Hayes Human Resource Solutions since 2014. She previously served as Vice President, Human Resource and Business Solutions at Drake Inglesi Milardo and as Vice President, Associate Relations and Talent Acquisition at Hannaford Supermarkets. Michelle is also a board member of Kids First Center and Good Shepherd Food Bank. Michelle’s education includes the University of Chicago’s Executive Marketing Program in 2000, as well as graduate work at Babson College’s School of Executive Development, Strategic Planning and Management in Retailing in 1998. She graduated from Thomas College with a B.S. Business Administration.

Charles (Wick) Johnson is president and owner of Kennebec Technologies in Augusta. Before this position, he founded a construction business, Heritage Builders. Former Chair of the University of Maine System Board of Directors, Wick currently serves as Vice President of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce and recently concluded his role as chair of the Lithgow Library Capital Campaign. Wick graduated with a B.A. in History from Lafayette College.

Meredith Jones recently retired from her post as President and CEO of the Maine Community Foundation. Before joining the Foundation in 1999, she directed training programs for the Maine Health Care Association. Meredith is on a number of boards, including CFLeads, a national organization of community foundation CEOs engaged in community leadership work, which she chairs. Meredith is a graduate of Colby Sawyer College and the University of Maine at Augusta and has completed post-graduate work at the University of Maine.

Greg Piper is the President of Performance Food Service-North Center in Augusta. He has worked for the company since 1976 in various positions such as operations and sales. Greg is also currently on the Board of Directors for the Augusta Board of Trade, Maine Restaurant Association and the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce. He graduated from the University of Maine in Augusta.

Dorcas Riley is a Certified Pulbic Accountant and is self-employed as a financial consultant. She began her finance career as a certified public accountant in the Portland office of an international public accounting firm, then moved into controller and chief financial officer roles for several central Maine companies. Dorcas has been an active community volunteer for many years. In addition to the Thomas Board, she currently serves on boards or the Waterville Opera House, United Way, the Dr. Shaw Memorial Library, and the Maranacook Education Foundation. She is a member of the Leadership Maine Psi class. Dorcas received her B.A. from Colby College.

Allen Ryan, now retired, was the President and Owner of NorthCenter Foodservice Corporation for 17 years, and the General Manager for twelve. He is also currently involved with various boards, including the Augusta Board of Trade, Friends of the Cobbossee Watershed, Guadalupe Center of Immokalee and recently completed years of service as a Trustee for his alma mater, Bowdoin College. Allen received his B.A. from Bowdoin in 1964.

William J. Ryan, Jr. is the Principal Owner and Chairman of the Maine Red Claws. He began his professional career as an attorney, practicing corporate law in Portland for four years before embarking on his career in sports business. Bill has investments in real estate, restaurants and early stage technology companies. In addition to his business interests, William has been involved with a number of non-profits, including currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Portland Museum of Art and the Portland Chamber of Commerce.

Employed at Tyler Technologies since 1995, Greg Savard graduated from Thomas College in 1989 with a B.S. in Computer Information Systems and has risen to his current position of Vice President of Product Strategy at Tyler Technologies. In addition to Thomas, Greg attended Harvard Business School for an executive education program, specializing in leadership development. He lives in Windham with his wife, Gale (St. Onge) Savard ’91, who he met while studying at Thomas. They have two young daughters.

Kelley Shimansky is the Vice President of Human Resources North America for Dechra Pharmaceuticals, PLC. Kelley began her career in Human Resources at KeyCorp. She later joined WEX, Inc. as the Manager of Learning & Development and held leadership roles across multiple Human Resources functions including Director of Compensation & Benefits. Kelley joined Putney as Vice President of Human Resources prior the acquisition of Putney by Dechra where she was promoted into her current role. Kelley received her B.S. from Thomas College and her M.B.A. from the University of Maine. She has served as a volunteer and Board member for several non-profit organizations, including the United Way and Camp Ketcha in Scarborough, ME.

Dick Spellman is the President of GDS Associates, Inc. Dick has more than 28 years of strategic planning, economic analysis, market research, renewable energy, energy efficiency and demand response program design, implementation and evaluation experience in the energy industry. Before joining GDS in 1993, he was the Manager of Marketing and Product Development at Central Maine Power Company, and he held several management positions during his 16 years at CMP. Dick has a B.A. in Math/Economics from Dartmouth College and earned an M.S. from Thomas College in 1980.
