Student Senate Announcement – December 4, 2018
Fellow Classmates, Faculty, and Staff,
I have EXCITING NEWS! For years, faculty and staff have heard several complaints about the noise level in the library. We have heard that students passing by for classes and customers at Jeannie’s Café enhances the noise level, and the purpose of a “library” is gone. While Senate has been working tirelessly to gain students’ feedback, the noise level was brought up yet again—Senate knew that this issue needed to be addressed.
“In an effort to find a solution, Senate brought in Beth Gibbs, the Vice President of Financial Affairs, who oversees our facilities and buildings. We wanted to discuss with her ways that would fix this issue and make a change to show the students that we were indeed listening to them. Senate approached the idea about a wall being built to divide the library and the café. Beth said that this has always been up for discussion and [Library Director] Lisa Auriemma has always reminded us of this need, so it was a high priority that has yet to be funded. With support that has been on-going for this addition by members of President’s Council, faculty and staff, Senate feedback was able to solidify the need to move this project forward as quickly as possible. After lots of discussion and deliberation, Student Senate has made the decision to FUND this improvement to the library.”
With that said, I can now officially share that a wall will be built in the library in between Jeannie’s Café and the Service Desk in an effort to improve student’s learning and overall happiness. This is just an example of how Senate is trying their best to listen to the student body and put their suggestions and concerns into action. This will be built during the holiday winter break, so please be mindful of some of the noise levels and construction that will be happening. The project should be substantially completed when we return in January 2019!!
A ribbon cutting will take place the first day back from break, on January 7, 2018 @ 12:15 PM
