Scott Mullen just began a new position as a Private Brand Manager with Hannaford. He develops and manages private brand products that Hannaford sells in its retail stores.
“I love this job because it requires me to be creative and strategic,” he said. “I also work with some great people, which makes the job fun.”
Scott says his education and experience at Thomas College prepared him for his career today.
“Thomas provided me a great foundation that went far beyond the classroom,” he said. “The small class size and atmosphere gave me opportunities to develop as a leader that I may not have had elsewhere.”
At Thomas, Scott was also a soccer player, class officer (vice president), and student ambassador.

Scott grew up in Mars Hill, Maine – or “the County” as he refers to it.
“It was a great place to grow up. I spent a lot of time outdoors with my family and played every sport offered – and I picked potatoes.”
Scott found Thomas College through his business teacher in high school, Marc Gendron ’77 (current Thomas College Board of Trustees member).
“He was always talking about the great experience he had at Thomas; that kind of piqued my interest,” said Scott.
Scott said he liked Thomas because of the people.
“The small class size and community atmosphere were really a fit for me,” he said. “I formed strong relationships with many members of the faculty and staff. I also made some amazing friends – many are still close friends today.”
It’s also the reason he is so proud to be a Thomas alumnus.
“My friends made at Thomas have stayed close through the years,” he said. “I’m also very proud of how much the school has grown over the years.”
Scott has this advice for current Thomas College students: “Do the very best you can with any opportunity. You probably won’t start off with your dream job, but people are watching how you handle those entry-level assignments. Demonstrate a good work ethic; have a great attitude; take on assignments that stretch you; and, (most importantly) build strong relationships. If you do those things, opportunity will follow.”
