Health Services operate out of the Thomas College Health Center, which is staffed by our nurse practitioner, the Director of Health Services. The College Physician is available by appointment only. The Health Center is located on the first floor of Grant Hall and serves both residential and commuter students. Health Center services include treatment services for the acute care of common medical problems of young adults, follow-up care to medical treatment, and referrals. A health care professional works with students and pays close attention to their physical, psychological, and preventative care needs and is able to diagnose, treat, and provide prescriptions. The Health Center partners with the Campus Counselor to provide support and services for students’ emotional and psychological needs.
The Health Center emphasizes important features such as health education and campus outreach programs focused on medical, psychological, and social aspects of healthier lifestyles; preventive immunization; and student participation in planning and prevention. We provide quality treatment services for the acute care of common medical problems of young adults including women/men’s health issues, sports related injuries, and follow-up care.
To better enable the Health Center to provide appropriate medical care, it is important that the completed medical history, physical exam and immunization forms are filed with the Health Center by July. This should include notice of any allergies or special information needed to best meet the health needs of the student. Please note that all students are required by Maine State Law to provide the College with a complete immunization history record before being allowed to register or attend classes. In particular, Maine State Law requires records of two doses of MMR and a Tetanus Diphtheria vaccination within the last 10 years.
Families may have questions about their student’s health status. Medical information will not be released without the written consent of the student. Staff will assist with general questions, however principles of patient confidentiality will not be violated.
