After graduating from Thomas College, Amelia Guimond ‘16 would like to get an entry-level management position, and eventually work her way up to being a CEO. She’d also like to own a bakery one day.
“I love to bake,” said the 20-year-old. “I won the Spring Bake off last year at Thomas. I made a Swedish Apple Pie and I won best pie and best dessert overall.”
Guimond’s high-set goals aren’t a surprise. In just two and a half years at Thomas College, Guimond will earn her Bachelors in December. She will complete her Thomas’s Masters in Business Administration in December 2017.
Guimond said she was able to take dual enrollment courses in high school through the University of Maine at Fort Kent, so she began her collegiate career at Thomas College with 18 credits. She also fast-tracked her undergraduate degree with the Kiest-Morgan Scholar Program, which allows students to take extra courses during the semester and summer to complete their Bachelor’s degree in three years instead of four.
Guimond, who is a business major, said it hasn’t been too difficult to take extra courses each semester.
“I guess I am just good at focusing on my school work,” she said.
Guimond is also a member of the women’s tennis team, a Resident’s Assistant and the Vice-President of Student Senate. She works as a student ambassador, giving campus tours to prospective students and families, and has had other work study positions on campus including, the President’s Office and in the Dining Center.

Hailing from northern Maine in Fort Kent (pop. 4,097), Guimond says she feels comfortable at Thomas College.
“It reminds me a lot of home because it’s small and I love the community. Everyone knows everyone,” she said. “It’s really easy to get involved and to make friends.”
Guimond says she has really enjoyed her time at Thomas, and that’s why she is excited to continue her education in the Master’s program.
She says her time at Thomas College has helped her grow not only academically – but also as a person.
“I’ve become a lot more confident with who I am,” she said. “I am a really shy person, but through experiences with meeting so many different people – and a lot of important people who are involved with the school – I’m always surprised when I am able to talk to them confidently.”
