Thomas Edwards Ph.D.

Provost

Biography:

Thomas Edwards joined Thomas College in 2000, having previously held teaching or administrative positions at Castleton State College (VT), Westbrook College/University of New England (ME), University of Wisconsin at Parkside and the University of Maryland European Division.

Areas of Expertise and Interest:

Dr. Edwards served as a Commissioner with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), now the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) from 2014-2020. He has served as a reviewer or chair for review teams at the state, regional and international level. He is past president of the New England Faculty Development Consortium (NEFDC) and has served on workgroups for the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) and the State of Maine. His areas of expertise include accreditation, strategic planning, student retention, grant-writing, teacher certification, and open educational resources.

Degrees:

Dr. Edwards holds his B.A. in German from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and his M.A. in German and his Ph.D. in American Culture from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He has studied at the University of Innsbruck, the University of Salzburg, and Ludwig-Maximilian’s University in Munich, Germany.

Publications:

Dr. Edwards is the co-editor of three works: Jewett and Her Contemporaries: Reshaping the Canon (1999, with Karen Kilcup); Such News of the Land: U.S. Women Nature Writers (2001, 2019 with Elizabeth DeWolfe), and At Home on This Earth: Two Centuries of U.S. Women’s Nature Writing (2002, with Lorraine Anderson).
