WATERVILLE, September 2016 — Registration is now open for Thomas College’s second annual Thomas Cup. The Thomas Cup is an overnight event bringing together teamwork, technology and competition. Open to high school and home-school students, the Thomas Cup will feature up to 30 teams that will compete in a number of technology competitions including cyber defense, gaming, computer science, and crime scene investigation (CSI). There is no cost for the students or participating schools.
This year’s Thomas Cup will take place on December 2 at 6 p.m. and continue throughout the night until 10 a.m. on December 3 at Thomas College in Waterville, Maine.
Throughout the event, teams of five students will test their skills in challenges including League of Legends competition, nerf wars with robots, a cyber-security version of capture the flag and a crime scene investigation competition.
Last year, 70 students attended and Winslow High School was the winner of the first annual Thomas Cup competition.
“The Thomas Cup is perfect for any student who is interested in computers and technology. It will give them a taste of Thomas College as well,” said Thomas College Professor of Information Technology Management Dr. Frank Appunn. “Competitors will need more than just technical skills to succeed. The best teams will combine a mix of project management, innovation, creativity, teamwork, leadership, and more in order to overcome the challenges and defeat their opponents.”
