WATERVILLE, MAINE, October 2018 — Open to Maine high school students, the Future Teachers Academy is for students interested in exploring the field of education as a career. Students will be able to participate in a daylong, hands-on and experiential teaching environment inspired by STEAM-based curriculum. School of Education faculty will be your professors for the day.
The free event will take place on November 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thomas College’s campus in the Center for Innovation in Education. This daylong event will highlight a day in the life of an education major at Thomas.
“As a Thomas College Education major, we want you to be working on authentic learning activities that reflect the reality of today’s classrooms,” said Dr. Pamela Thompson, Chair of the School of Education at Thomas College. “At the same time, our faculty is dedicated to preparing pre-service teachers to think about how they inspire meaningful change in the classrooms of tomorrow.”
This academy is free and includes morning snacks and lunch. Registration is online at wwwold.thomas.edu/future-teachers-academy .
The Future Teachers Academy is presented by Thomas College’s Center for Innovation in Education, which prepares future teachers to integrate proficiency-based education, STEAM education, and digital literacy into their classrooms.
