Student Awarded Maine Public Relations Council Scholarship for Community Service Web Director | December 17, 2018

Student Melinda White ’19 was recently awarded the Arthur J Marcoux Scholarship for community service at the Maine Public Relations Council Award Ceremony.

Melinda was awarded the scholarship for her hard work and dedication toward her communications school and involvement with JMG at Thomas College.

Melinda is currently the president of JMG Club on campus and has been involved with promoting and organizing many service and leadership events. She is also currently a marketing intern at Day Jeweler’s in Waterville.

“This scholarship is not only helping me to pay my bill but continue my education,” said Melinda. “I have been paying for school on my own and it hasn’t been easy to say the least. I have been blessed to not only have received this scholarship but be the first student to earn the Mitchell Institute scholarship from my high school Maine Connections Academy as well.”

Melinda, a communication major at Thomas, said her favorite part of the program is her professors – especially Dr. Bruce Kelsey.

“When I first met him I was intimidated and now see there was no reason to be. He is one of the nicest and most dedicated professors I have ever had the pleasure of taking classes with,” she said. “His door is always open to helping students in any way (academic or personal). He has allowed me to work creatively on things I am passionate about within the requirements of the course I am taking at the time.
