Dena Wade is the first person to greet you when you walk into Student Affairs – and she does so with positivity, friendliness, and the ability to solve problems tactically.
Dena, an employee of the College for nine years, is being recognized as this month’s Terrier STAR for her exceptional customer service, being a team player, providing a personal experience, and improving system/processes.
“She offers those who enter her office a place of comfort, compassion, welcome, and the ability to solve or find a place of resolution to whatever they bring – especially to our students and the rest of us,” said one colleague.
A senior employee of the College describes Dena’s job as Administrative Assistant for Student Affairs as one with many interruptions, but Dena is skilled in still getting big projects done on time.
“She is patient and welcoming to those who are upset or unsure. She is proactive when she sees or learns of a need,” said the employee. “She has taken the time to research projects and find more ways for the Student Affairs office to achieve goals, like putting paperwork and the Student Handbook online.”
This colleague also says that Dena is highly skilled at responding to emergency situations that require quick-thinking.
Dena is described as a team player. In her position for the Student Affairs Division, she supports staff in the Health Center, Recreation, Student Life, Residential Life, and Public Safety.
“She is personal, professional, and courteous, even in an everchanging environment such as Student Affairs,” says another colleague. “Dena is the glue that keeps the Student Affairs Division functioning at its best.”
And all can agree – Dena’s main goal in all of this is supporting the students and making sure they have a quality experience at Thomas College.
