Thomas College Community Donates over 360 Pounds of Food to Good Shepherd Food Bank Web Director | October 19, 2016

WATERVILLE, October 2016 — Thomas College collected 364 pounds of food to support the Good Shepherd Food Bank’s Child Hunger Program, which provides nutritious, easy-to-prepare foods for children facing food insecurity.

On October 17, Thomas College community members delivered the food to the food bank in Auburn.

When a child faces chronic hunger, learning becomes an incredibly steep uphill battle. The Good Shepherd Food Bank’s child hunger program provides Maine children who are suffering the effects of chronic hunger with nutritious food to eat during weekends and school vacations when those crucial school meals are unavailable. Various child hunger programs are in schools throughout the entire state.

The Fill ‘Em Up project during Homecoming & Family Weekend aims to fill a Thomas mini bus with food donations and deliver them to the Good Shepherd Food Bank for its child hunger programs.

“Fill ‘Em Up fills the Thomas mini bus, fills children’s empty tummies, and in turn, helps to fill their hungry and growing minds,” said Thomas College Assistant Vice President of Advancement Erin Baltes. “Rallying the Thomas community – students, faculty, staff, alumni, families, and all guests – for this worthy cause fits perfectly with our commitment to education and community service.”
