Thomas College Helps This Alumna Take on New Challenges Web Director | September 24, 2018

Katie Doherty ‘10 was born and raised in Waterville.

“My upbringing in central Maine is what molded me into the person I am today,” said Katie. “ I never had big dreams to get out of Maine like so many others do and wanted to stay in or near the community that was influential on my character and work ethic.”

After graduating from high school, Katie decided to attend Thomas College while commuting. She loved her experience here.

“Thomas holds a big piece of my heart. Without Thomas, I would have never met my husband, Chris Doherty ’09, and been able to create the life that we share together now,” said Katie.

After Thomas, Katie worked in higher education before joining the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce as a program director. After two years, she was promoted to the President and CEO of the Chamber.

“Thomas helped prepare me to be ready for anything,” said Katie. “Without my education and experience at Thomas, I would not be as capable and confident to be able to take on any opportunities and changes that have been presented to me.”

Katie is excited to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Thomas College this year.

“Over the past 125 years, Thomas has had an immense impact on all the individuals who attended, their families, and the community, by developing their students to be the leaders of the past, present, and future,” said Katie. “Every time I visit campus or drive by Thomas on the way to my hometown, I enjoy seeing the growth of the college and all the smiles and conversations going on between students.”
