WATERVILLE, September 2016 — Thomas College’s theatre group, The Thomas College Players, presents their spring production ‘Don’t Go Into the Basement’ on October 14 at 7 p.m. and October 15 at 1 p.m. in the Ayotte Auditorium at Thomas College. The event is free and open to the public.

The play, a Horrific Comedy, was written by Paul P. Barnes, Director of the Thomas College Players. The play is about a boy, played by Thomas sophomore Nathaniel Grindstaff, and his friends who set out to solve a mystery when his father, played by Thomas first-year student Machaela Laramee, disappears and was last seen in the basement. The play mixes science fiction, horror, and suspense all in forty minutes with colorful characters each lending their part to solve the mystery.

“A few years ago a friend of mine asked me if I could use an Oil Tank Puppet for drama,” said Barnes, who is also a teacher at Waterville Junior High School. “She figured that I was creative enough to use it. It cost her company thousands of dollars to make, and they were done using it so they just gave it to me. The puppet was the muse of this play. It’s like Little Shop of Horrors meets the Goonies!”

Barnes said he is excited about the energy and natural talent of his cast this year. He said the cast has a few returning actors from last fall as well as new student actors.
