Posted 3/3/2021

To the Thomas College Community,

As a reminder, Thomas College’s spring break is scheduled for next week, March 8 to March 12.  Like our prior breaks, the College is working hard to ensure the health and safety of the community leading up to our break and for our post-break reintegration on campus.

  • Friday, March 5:  Last day of classes
  • Monday, March 8:  Spring break begins for all students
  • Friday, March 12 – Sunday, March 14:  Residences re-open (see below for additional details on reintegration)
  • Monday, March 15:  In-person, on-campus, and Graduate online classes resume

Please note that in-person classes resume on Monday, March 15.

Anyone remaining in residence or working on campus (faculty, staff, or students) must get tested twice between March 8 and March 14.  The first test must be done on Monday, March 8th, 2021 or Tuesday, March 9th, 2021. Your second test must then be done Thursday, March 11th, Friday, March 12th, or Saturday, March 13th, 2021.  Modified testing hours are below:

·      Monday, March 8:  7:30am-12:00pm

·      Tuesday, March 9:  12:00pm-3:45pm

·      Wednesday, March 10:  CLOSED

·      Thursday, March 11:  8:00am-3:45pm (closed for lunch, 11:30 am to 12:30 pm)

·      Friday, March 12:  8:00am-5:00pm (closed for lunch, 11:30 am to 12:30 pm)

·      Saturday, March 13:  9:00am-3:45pm

·      Sunday, March 14:  10:00am-1:00pm

Faculty, Staff and Day Commuters

  • ALL Day Commuter Students, Faculty and Staff MUST TEST on Thursday, March 11th, Friday, March 12, or Saturday, March 13th, 2021.

Resident Students

  • Residents will begin staggered return on Friday, March 12
  • Residents must come at their scheduled arrival time (see email from Hannah Gladstone, Dean of Students).  If you show up without notice or when you are not scheduled, you will not be allowed on campus
  • Residents must check-in at the gym lobby immediately upon arrival to campus (do not go to residences first)
  • ALL Resident Students MUST TEST on Friday March 12th, Saturday March 13th, or Sunday March 14th, 2021 (upon your scheduled arrival time)

Graduate Evening Commuter Students and Faculty:

  • Evening Graduate students and Graduate adjunct faculty will be required to test the first night of their on-campus class only

Any community members who traveled and returned from a non-exempt state or out of the country must show a negative COVID test administered within 72 hours of arrival obtained from an outside facility (e.g. Walk-In Care, CVS, etc).  Travelers to non-exempt areas must remain off campus until a negative test result is obtained without exception.

  • Travelers may not use on-campus testing facilities for this purpose
  • Students traveling to a non-exempt state must notify Hannah Gladstone
  • Employees traveling to a non-exempt state must notify Michelle Joler-Labbe

Finally, as you begin to think about departing for spring break, I urge everyone to continue to practice good COVID behaviors over the break–socially distance, wear your mask, wash your hands.  While indicators in Maine and across the U.S. should give us all hope, we must still support and protect each other so we can end our year together safe and healthy.

With deep respect,

Laurie G. Lachance, President
