Thomas College begins a new academic year serving more than 700 learners across its undergraduate and graduate programs, with new academic majors, growing enrollment from Southern Maine, and expanded opportunities for students across the College.
Students began arriving on campus today, September 3, as part of move-in and the start of New Terrier Orientation. This year, Thomas College has expanded its orientation experience to five days for all incoming students, providing additional opportunities for cohort building, academic engagement, Common Read activities, workshops, and campus exploration. The first day of classes for all students is Tuesday, September 8.
Thomas College’s student community reflects both the College’s strong Maine roots and growing reach beyond the state. Entering students represent all 16 Maine counties, 23 states, and 19 countries. Thomas College also saw a 15 percent increase in entering students from Southern Maine compared to last year. And residence halls are operating near capacity this fall, reflecting the strength of Thomas College’s residential community.
“We are excited to welcome our students to campus and begin another year of learning, growth, and opportunity,” said Thomas College President Dr. Jeannine Diddle Uzzi. “This incoming class brings tremendous talent, energy, and perspective, and we look forward to seeing the impact these students will make both during their time at Thomas and beyond.”
Among the highlights for the new academic year are several new and expanded academic offerings. Thomas College is welcoming its first cohorts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Teaching Residency, and Athletic Coaching, along with the launch of a new Canine Studies minor. The College has also completed renovations to its grab-and-go dining space and campus store.
Thomas College is also seeing significant growth in students enrolling in its Lunder School of Education at a time when Maine schools continue to face teacher workforce needs. The number of incoming education students has doubled compared with last year, creating one of the largest entering education cohorts in the College’s history.
