Get Out and Live (GOAL)
Don't Sit in the Dorm! GOAL!
The Thomas College GOAL Get Out And Live program is a designed to get students out exploring Maine both on campus and on the coast, in the mountains and all the placed in-between. The program offers multiple trips each semester for students at a reduced cost, these trips include white water rafting, skiing, and trips to Acadia National Park. Each year students join these trips and are exposed to areas of Maine they have explored before or have never seen before.
A nice outcome for the program is that it is for students who are from outside of Maine and our students from Maine who potentially have these experiences already. These creates an opportunity for students to “show off Maine” and what they love or are passionate about. This mix of students has always led to the most engaging and fluffing GOAL trips. Students truly can lead, share, and explore with each other. These trips are not guided tours, once students arrive, we create options for them to explore at their own comfort level or experience. This is particularly common on our Acadia park trip where students get the opportunity to hike, shop, sit on the beach or even schedule their own whale watch. We transport the students to the park, and they choose how they want to spend their day.
Our hope is that this will be a convenient way for students to add to their college experience, start traditions with friends/teammates or simply meet like-minded students. The program is open to student feedback and suggestions for events to add to our calendar and even collaborates with other departments.
