Elizabeth “Beth” Killy

Associate Professor of Accounting

Biography

The first 12 years of my career were spent working and growing in the accounting field. I had the chance to put into practice the concepts that I teach in class. I was fortunate to work for many different types of organizations and held several positions that grew in responsibility during my career, and I draw on those experiences to help provide an application for what is covered in the accounting courses. I have been teaching accounting for 15 years and look forward to continuing in this role at Thomas College.

Teaching Philosophy

My overall aim as a Professor of Accounting is to enable my students to succeed as students of business and later, as business persons. I focus on establishing my students’ foundational understanding of the principles of financial accounting, together with the professional virtues associated with excellence in financial accounting: organization, communication, transparency, and fairness. At the same time, I strive to cultivate an appreciation for the value in understanding financial information and the many career opportunities available to students graduating with an accounting major.
