2025 Common Read

The Thomas College Common Read is our invitation to join our academic community of individuals who share and explore ideas with each other.

Ross Gay is an American poet and author. He has received the PEN American Literary Jean Stein Award, the 2015 National Book Critics Circle Award, and the 2016 Tufts Poetry Award. The Book of Delights was a 2019 New York Times bestseller.

He describes himself as someone who “is interested in joy… wants to understand joy… is curious about joy… studies joy. Something like that.”

In The Book of Delights, Gay pauses to identify a source of delight in his daily experiences. The genuineness in his reflections highlight the value in exploring what may be regarded as mundane.
