Our Programs

Future Teachers Academy

A program open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors, the Future Teachers Academy is for students who are interested in exploring the field of education as a career.

Students participate in a daylong, hands-on, and experimental teaching environment, led by professional faculty from the Peter and Paula Lunder School of Education, as well as partners from the Maine Department of Education and Maine State Teacher of the Year Program.

Education Innovators Series

A forum where state, regional, and national thought leaders share their views on the future of education. This series is made possible through a partnership between Thomas College, Educate Maine, and the Education Action Forum of Maine.

Educare Central Maine Partnership

Thomas College and Educare Central Maine have a unique partnership. Educare Central Maine serves as the preferred lab school for Early Education majors. Thomas College students have direct access to one of the nation’s most effective early childhood schools, located in Waterville, Maine. This provides unique training experiences that differentiates them in the field.

Samantha Smith Challenge

In partnership with Americans Who Tell the Truth, the CIE is proud to host the Samantha Smith Challenge, an event for middle-level students and educators promoting social justice and advocacy. Every June, over 500 middle school students journey across the state of Maine to Thomas College to share their own Samantha Smith Challenge products, ranging from recycling initiatives they have begun at their schools to informing their communities on the Black Lives Matter movement. The CIE also has a gallery of AWTT portraits, by artist, Robert Shetterley.

CIE Design Center

Do you have an innovative idea you want to build or create?

The CIE Design Center is a collaborative learning space that provides an opportunity for students and faculty to interact with one another to work on innovative projects. Acting as a hub, the Design Center encourages students, professors, and instructional and software designers to collaborate on educational design, robotics, classroom simulations for teacher education virtual field work, online course development, and competency based instructional models.
