Charlie Hippler ’22 found his passion for economics, money, and banking here at Thomas – through his classes but also by being involved in the Investment Society and Student Senate on campus.
Through the Investment Society, Charlie spent time with his peers actively trading and managing a stock portfolio for the club – gaining actual market experience with real funds. They also recently took a trip to New York City and visited the financial district, among other places.
“Working with Dr. Libby and Dr. Leland to ‘resurrect’ the Investment Society club from its relatively dormant state is something I’m extremely proud of,” said Charlie.
The Manchester, Maine native said Thomas was the right place for him to learn and grow because of the culture here: “Thomas College has an amazing ‘open door’ policy. I don’t know of any other college where faculty and staff are so accessible. Often times it’s just a matter of stopping by a professor’s office and sitting down with them to meet about any concern you might have. If that’s not an option, everyone is easily reachable through email. I love how communication is so easy this way, it fosters a great environment to learn and get things done.”
Charlie is thankful for the opportunities he has had at Thomas to grow as a person and professional. After graduation, he plans to stay and work in central Maine by pursuing a job in commercial banking and being engaged with his local community.
