Regarding Last Night’s Tragic Events Web Director | October 26, 2023

To the Thomas College Community,

Due to the horrific events that occurred last night in Lewiston, the College has canceled all classes for today.  The campus and administrative offices will remain open and secure.  We have been in contact throughout the night and morning with law enforcement and we have no indication of a particular threat to the Waterville area at this time.  As the situation continues to unfold, please know we will take every precaution possible to safeguard every member of the Thomas College community.

It is impossible to fully express the depths of my sorrow over what has occurred.  Like many of you, I am in shock, confused, and heartbroken for the victims and their families.

Please remember that the College has mental health support services available for those students who need it.

We will provide the community with relevant email and social media updates from our Office of Safety and Security.

We have reserved the Summit Room at 11:00 AM today as a space for anyone who wishes to gather to support, discuss, and remember, together.

The entire state of Maine is–in many ways–like our own small community.  What impacts one of us is felt by all.  However, as we have experienced over the last few years, there is great strength and healing when communities come together and support one another even in the most tragic of times.    With my deepest respect,
