Dr. Josh Havelin, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, is known for his attention to detail, his passion for science, and his engaging teaching style.
Dr. Havelin, an employee of the College for less than two years, is being recognized as this month’s Terrier STAR for providing a personalized experience and inspiring environment, his institutional inventiveness, his career focus, his care, and his sense of community.
“Josh’s efforts in advancing Thomas College Labs and helping support Team Science has been phenomenal. His advocacy for lab workload equality and for lab safety demonstrates the drive Thomas needs to be able to advance the workforce of tomorrow as well as grow our programs in a meaningful way,” said a senior colleague.




“Josh has been an outstanding addition to Team Science at Thomas! His expertise was critical to properly outfitting the new chemistry lab and he has made exciting contributions to the new biology major,” said another colleague.
Dr. Havelin has only been working at Thomas for a couple of years, and he has already jumped right into getting involved and bringing his incredible attention to detail to committees and working groups across the College.
As a professor, Dr. Havelin brings contagious energy:
“Josh is great with our students. He makes chemistry approachable and exciting and always goes out of his way to provide additional support when it is needed. His specialization in neuroscience and brewing science is an asset to making science at Thomas an interdisciplinary experience,” said a colleague.
