Thomas College Announces New Academic Major in Esports MacKenzie Riley Young | August 4, 2021

WATERVILLE, MAINE, August 2021 — Esports, a billion-dollar industry, is becoming as popular as the National Football League.

The League of Legends World Championship Finals in 2019 attracted more than 100 million unique viewers compared to 98 million viewers for the same year’s Super Bowl. And there are more than 240K jobs in gaming.

That’s why Thomas College is launching a new academic major in Fall 2022 called Esports and Gaming Administration.

The academic program includes courses such as Esports Convention, Event and Tradeshow Planning and Distribution of Games.

“Esports is a billion-dollar industry so creating a degree program that melds a solid business foundation with a focus on this exploding field is a perfect fit for our students,” says Provost Thomas Edwards.
