In 2018, Thomas College became the first college in Maine to offer a varsity Esports program. Since then, Thomas College has expanded the program immensely. This fall, Thomas College built an additional Esports room, located in Hinman Residence Hall. The Esports seasons is off to a strong start!

Due to high demand and success in the program, more space was needed. But that’s not the only way that Thomas Esports grew this year.
This fall, Thomas has added five new varsity programs: Counter-Strike 2, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, League of Legends, Fortnite, and Teamfight Tactics – almost doubling the size of the program.
Thomas Esports also made a new addition to the coaching staff. Coach Jeremy Caton is the new part time Rocket League coach. As Thomas Esports continues to expand their program, they mark their first season with three coaches on staff.
“The Thomas Rocket League Black roster, coached by Jeremy Caton, consisting of Juniors Connor Eide and Maverick McDunnah, as well as Graduate Alesandro Martinez, is competing against the cream of the crop when it comes to Collegiate Rocket League and is looking to become one of the top collegiate teams in the nation,” said Thomas College Director of Esports Owen Vining.
Inside the new Esports room in Hinman Hall contains 10 PCs equipped with 4090 GPUs which is currently the top of the line among the market, along with Secret Labs Omega gaming chairs and black out curtains to prevent glare.
“These are the best PCs currently available,” said Thomas Esports Coach Jonathan Middour.
The Overwatch 2 varsity squad has had an excellent start to this season, sitting at 4-0 currently, with their eye on the playoffs.
“Head Coach Jonathan Middour leads the charge in bringing Thomas Overwatch to new heights and hopes to bring home a trophy this year for the Terriers,” said Owen.
