Making a Pledge to Thomas
A pledge is a formal, multi-year commitment to support Thomas College through structured installments over a specified timeframe—typically three to five years. By establishing a pledge schedule, you can make a significantly larger total impact than might be feasible in a single lump-sum contribution, stretching your gift across multiple fiscal periods. Donors often choose this path when they wish to support transformational projects, such as capital improvements or endowed scholarships, allowing them to fulfill a major philanthropic milestone at a comfortable, predictable pace while providing the College with vital long-term capital forecasting.
To make a pledge, please contact Alicia Barnes in the Office of Advancement. View the required form for making a pledge.
Budget and Tax Planning (End/Beginning of Year)
Tax-advantaged giving involves strategically timing your contributions—such as donating appreciated securities, utilizing a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF), or making Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) from an IRA—at key financial milestones during the year. By aligning your support with spring budget planning or year-end tax strategy, you maximize the tax efficiency of your gift. Donors choose this approach because it allows them to maximize their philanthropic impact, lower their taxable income or offset capital gains, and turn routine financial or tax management into meaningful investment in our students.
To discuss this option, please contact Alicia Barnes in the Office of Advancement.
Planned/Estate Giving
Planned giving encompasses deferred gifts structured through your broader estate plan, including bequests in a will or trust, beneficiary designations on life insurance policies or retirement accounts, and charitable gift annuities. These arrangements ensure that your commitment to Thomas College endures well beyond your lifetime, creating a permanent legacy without impacting your day-to-day finances during your living years. Donors frequently opt for planned giving because it provides peace of mind, offers potential estate tax advantages, and guarantees that their values and passion for education will continue to empower future generations for decades to come.
Please visit our Planned Giving page for detailed information about this avenue of support.
Retiring after 18 years as Thomas’s nurse practitioner, Cheryl Daggett was surprised to learn that her years of giving through staff payroll deductions had made her a major donor to Thomas College. Through these deductions, she became a faithful member of Thomas’ Evergreen Society. As she reflected on her time and relationships at Thomas, Daggett shared how her family upbringing in northern New England had instilled in her the importance of education and generosity.
