Thomas Emergency Response Team (TERT)
Thomas Emergency Response Team
Thomas College maintains an Emergency Response Team (TERT) whose purpose is to ensure the protection of lives and property through the effective use of college and campus resources.
This team is activated whenever an emergency affecting the campus reaches proportions that cannot be handled by routine measures. When an emergency is declared the team, comprised of 13 senior level administrators, comes together and utilizes a plan maintained by the Director of Safety and Security to effectively manage the response and recovery phases of the emergency.
The team is well-versed in managing these situations because they meet frequently to focus on both mitigation and prevention, as well as preparedness. Each member of the team participates in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) self-study courses and participates in regularly scheduled tabletop exercises.
The Director of Safety & Security as the municipal liaison maintains regular communications with the Waterville Police and Fire Departments, as well as the Kennebec County Emergency Management Agency; and serves as the team’s facilitator and record-keeper. The TERT encourages all members of the community to download the Terrier Safe App.
