Explore a Future in Teaching

The Future Teachers Academy is presented by Thomas College’s Lunder School of Education, which provides preservice teachers with the opportunity to learn about their best capabilities as a future teacher.

February 6, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Open to Maine high school students, the Future Teachers Academy is for students interested in exploring the field of education as a career. Students will be able to participate in a day-long, hands-on and experiential teaching environment inspired by interdisciplinary curriculum.

Lunder School of Education faculty will be your professors for the day.

This academy is free and includes lunch.

Schedule of Events

February 6, 2026

10:00 a.m.: Registration, Summit Room

10:00 – 10:15 a.m.: Meet and Greet, Summit Room

10:15 – 10:30 a.m.: Welcome and Layout of the Day 

10:30-11:15- Breakout session 1: Creating a Tapestry of Learning, Dr. Richard Biffle- AD205, AD205A , and Summit Room

11:15 – 11:30 a.m.: Break and transition to lunch  in Summit Room

11:30 – 12:30 p.m.: Lunch in cafeteria  

12:30 – 1:15 p.m.: Breakout session 2: Negotiating Diverse Cultures, Dr. Heather Batchelor- AD205, AD205A, and Summit Room  

1:15 – 2:00 p.m.:  Closing in Summit Room

2:00 – 2:30 p.m.: Optional tour
